The Island’s great ponds are among our most distinctive (and beautiful) landscape features. And at the moment, our most imperiled. For generations, Island artists have been capturing their beauty with paintings and photographs — haunting reminders of what we have to lose if we don’t take care of these treasures.
Martha’s Vineyard Bank will host an exhibit, “The Art of Martha’s Vineyard’s Great Ponds,” at their Chilmark branch (517 South Road), from August 12 to Sept. 6. The show will be curated by Monina von Opel, from the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital’s Permanent Art Collection.
Join Great Ponds artists at the opening reception on August 12 at 5:30 p.m., where “Great Ponds” documentary filmmaker Ollie Becker will answer questions.
